Free Housing Counseling and Education
Whether you rent, are buying a home, or already own one, SERCAP can help you understand your options and make informed housing and financial decisions. Our HUD-certified housing counselors work with you one-on-one to address your needs and plan your next steps.
All housing counseling services are free, regardless of your income or household size.
One-on-One Counseling
Our counselors can help you:
- Create a budget and spending plan
- Understand and manage debt
- Review your credit and identify ways to improve it
- Recognize and avoid predatory lending
- Understand how much you can afford to spend on housing
- Set financial and housing goals and develop a plan to reach them
Housing and Financial Education Classes
Build practical skills for managing your money and caring for your home. Class topics include:
- Budgeting and credit
- Renting a home
- Buying a home
- Predatory lending
- Fair housing
- Home maintenance
- Disaster preparedness
Eligibility Requirements:
We follow Virginia Housing’s Lending Limits for Program Enrollment.
*Some financial assistance programs have varying income requirements
