“Service.”
This is the word Amanda Howe, Director of Regional Programs would use to describe her work here at SERCAP.
“SERCAP provides services to address critical needs in the communities we work in,” Howe said. “I work with the regional staff in all seven of the states that SERCAP works in to assist communities with water and wastewater issues.”
The organization came as a natural fit to Amanda, an individual who personally values the hospitality and kindness that accompanies helping others. In her position within our organization, service plays a leading role in Amanda’s day-to-day work life.
She supports the efforts of our field staff, enabling others to live out their roles and complete their work in their designated states, addressing issues and providing service under the HHS, USDA and EPA grants that support our programs. When asked what drives her passion for this work, Amanda provided a perspective on giving back to those in areas that do not have the same access to clean water that others possess.
“What drives my passion is that water is a necessity, and every individual should have access to clean water,” Howe said. “Many people, especially those in rural areas or living in poverty, do not have access to the clean water they need. In fact, many people in the United States are still unaware that access to water is an issue for many Americans—and a lot of people living in communities with outdated or failing systems don’t realize the water and wastewater needs of their own communities. Working to raise awareness is one of my goals—once more people realize what a large issue water is, my hope is that they will take up a more active role in addressing water concerns,” Howe said.
One of Amanda’s biggest takeaways from working with us has been the realization that with a strong community behind one’s cause, progress in not only possible, but inevitable.
“One of my favorite aspects of my job at SERCAP is seeing the passion for the communities we work in and the services we provide,” Howe said. “Every day I get to work with people that are connected to the community and areas we serve. They go above and beyond to bring their knowledge and expertise to address problems and work to find solutions.”
SERCAP provides service, support and a vision for successfully providing clean water to those in need—Amanda, and our team, collectively, continue to support rural communities in a tangible way.
