Recently, SERCAP’s Essential & Critical Needs Program assisted a low-income, single woman living in Richmond County, VA, to repair the pump for her individual household well. The client’s well-pump had recently begun malfunctioning, significantly decreasing the reliability of access to water in her home. However, due to her low-income status, she was unable to afford the cost of the critical repairs to her well-pump, without causing a significant financial burden.
Fortunately, she was referred to SERCAP and the agency was able to step-in and provide financial assistance for the project. SERCAP’s Essential & Critical Needs Program provided a grant in the amount of $1,200.00, to support the repair cost, and the project was awarded to Charles H. Helmick Well & Pump Services, Inc. Now that the project is complete, the client once again has reliable access to clean, safe drinking water in her home.
Without SERCAP’s Essential & Critical Needs Program, and other similar services, many low-income households and communities would be forced to go without such necessities as reliable access to clean drinking water, environmentally sound wastewater disposal solutions, indoor plumbing, safe and affordable housing, community development and infrastructure needs, water/ wastewater infrastructure solutions, and more. It is important to remember that even in the United States in the 21st Century; there are those who do not have reliable access to clean, safe drinking water, environmentally sound septic facilities, and affordable housing. In order to help SERCAP continue to assist both the individuals and communities in need, please consider making a gift to SERCAP’s Annual Fund.
