Currently, SERCAPs Certified CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution) Loan Fund is assisting a Low-income single man living in Nottoway County, VA, to replace his individual household well. Recently, the client, who has lived in his home for 14 years, began experiencing significant issues with his well. Specifically, the well had been compromised by surface water infiltration, causing his well water to become contaminated, and unsafe for drinking and cooking. However, due to his low-income status, the Client could not afford the cost of repairing or replacing his well, without experiencing significant financial hardship.

Fortunately, the Client was referred to SERCAP for assistance. Following an initial assessment, it was determined that the well could not just be repaired, but needed to be replaced. SERCAP’s Loan Fund approved the Client for an $11,613.02 Individual Household Well Loan to cover the full project cost, including fees. Royall Pump & Well Co., Inc., a local well-driller, was granted the contract for the project. Once complete, the Client will have a reliable source of clean, safe drinking and potable water, at his home.

Without SERCAP’s full slate of Programs and Services, both low-to-moderate income (LMI) individuals and rural communities would be forced to go without such necessities as clean drinking water, up-to-date water/wastewater infrastructure solutions, reliable access to safe and affordable housing, indoor plumbing, community development and infrastructure needs, and more. It is important to remember that even in the US in the 21st Century; there are those who do not have reliable access to clean, safe drinking water, environmentally sound septic facilities, and affordable housing. In order to help SERCAP continue providing assistance to both the individuals and communities in need, please consider making a gift to SERCAP’s Annual Fund!
